FAQs
Who owns Prestige Products, Inc.? How big is the company?
Don Samuel is the primary owner and operator of this family-run business. The company consists of Don, his two sons (and co-owners), Dustin and Jay, and a few seasonal marketing/canvassing personnel. We have trusted and years-long relationships with all of our top-quality installers.
How long has Prestige Products, Inc., been in business?
Prestige Products Inc, was incorporated in 1981. Don Samuel has been an entrepreneurial businessman all his life, and has owned his own company for over 30 years. He started in the window and siding home improvement business in 1990 and turned Prestige Products Inc, into a home improvement company in January, 1993.
Where is Prestige Products' office/showroom located?
We run our business from offices in a home in southeast Denver that we have owned for 40+ years. We have no formal showroom in order to save on overhead costs and, in turn, pass savings on to our customers. We have intentionally decided not to lease/own retail space for this and other key reasons. Our experience tells us that we can more effectively demonstrate and explain our product lines by visiting our prospective customers in the comfort of their own homes. We always need to measure window openings and/or exterior wall areas for accurate estimates anyway, so it just makes sense to do it all there at the customer's home. We do have a beautiful 16-foot trailer that we have turned into a "Showroom on Wheels" that we can bring to larger functions (or to individual homes if specifically needed).
Are you a high-pressure company that will stay for hours to get a sale?
ABSOLUTELY NOT. We respect and honor our prospective customers and we know that the stereotypical high-pressure salesman bit turns people off. We would much rather leave your home without a sale and know you think of us as genuine, honest, friendly people than demand you sign our contract and have you think of us (and worse, talk to your friends about us) as jerks who wouldn't leave. The last 19+ profitable years in this industry have proved to us that we can be a very successful company by being nice, respectful, honest, prompt (both in arriving and leaving) and professional. We give informative presentations that take 45-60 minutes (unless you have a lot of questions) and we give you the information you need to make a wise, well-informed decision about your home improvement needs.
Do you require money down to start a project?
NO. From the very start, we decided to be a NO MONEY DOWN company. The home improvement industry has a shady reputation as we all know. This is mostly due to contractors who take money up front, start the job, and then don't finish or don't give the customer what they promised they would in the beginning. We find it easy to convince people that we will do what we say we will because we won't get paid if we don't keep our promises. We do not receive a penny until the job is finished and you, the customer, are completely satisfied. We simply ask for payment in full upon job completion. We have found that this policy accomplishes two very important things: 1) It gives you, the homeowner, the highest level of comfort and control in the process, since you have NO risk up front, and; 2) It give us, the company, the highest level of motivation to keep our promises, so that we will get paid when we're done. If that sounds easy, it is. If it sounds too good to be true, just ask any of our 2500+ customers and they'll all tell you that is works just like this every time.
Is Prestige Products (and all of your installers) licensed and insured?
YES. The company carries $2 million of liability insurance and we carry Pinnacol Workman's Comp. Every installer we work with also carries his own liability insurance (from $750k to $2 million depending on the installer). We have contractor's licenses in Denver, Aurora, and all other cities in which we work. As a licensed contractor, we pull building permits when required by the city or county in which the job is located.
Are you aware of the EPA Lead Paint deal? What is your stance?
YES, we are fully aware and fully compliant. FIRST OF ALL - if your home was built on 1/1/1978 or later, YOU ARE EXEMPT from any lead-based paint rules or laws. Since lead paint was outlawed/banned in the US from 1/1/1978 and thereafter, no home built in 1978 or later is required to be tested for lead, nor are homeowners or contractors required to use LSWP (Lead Safe Work Practices) on any home improvement work done to post-1977 homes. That leaves about 50% of homes in the Denver metro area that were built BEFORE 1/1/1978 - this new legislation aplies to YOU! In April of 2010, the EPA instituted a new rule (federal law) that changed how home improvement projects (that disturb 6 sq ft or more of painted surface) are to be completed on homes built before 1978. Since lead-based paint could theoretically exist in any home built before 1978, homeowners and contractors must either TEST FOR LEAD before beginning work, or they must PRESUME LEAD and proceed with LSWP (Lead Safe Work Practices). PRESTIGE PRODUCTS TESTS FOR LEAD in all pre-1978 homes. We NEVER presume lead will be present (and neither should you). LSWP are way too expenseive, time consuming, hassle-laden and invasive to simply assume lead is there and go through all the extensive extra work and hassle they mandate, especially since most homes built after 1950 have NO LEAD AT ALL. Our personal research and experience has proven that homes built between 1960 - 1978 are almost 100% guaranteed to have NO lead content, while homes built between 1940 -1960 have about a 25% chance of having lead, and homes built before 1940 have a much greater chance (50-75%) of a lead presence that would require LSWP to be employed.
